The search continues today for a diver who went missing off the coast of Mayaro whilst doing an open dive, at 3:45pm yesterday.

Lost at sea is Reinaldo Novoa, a retired nurse and pharmacy representative, married to Jasema Mungalsingh, father of two boys, and grandfather of seven grandchildren.

Family members say he is a strong swimmer and professional diving instructor.  They also say he did have a buoyancy device and other gear with him at the time he went missing.  He was last seen at 11 am on Sunday 8th November 2020 prior to the deep dive later that day.

Notwithstanding his survival knowledge and experience, the Novoa family is concerned and say time is of the essence in finding him, as no one knows how much longer he can last in current sea conditions.

The family confirms that the Coast Guard has been contacted for its assistance, but reportedly is waiting for air support before coordinating their efforts.

A call to all available vessels for help was sent out via the Northern Post Radio Station.  The Novoa family is asking any boat owners and fishermen along the coast—from Serpents Mouth to Gran Cayo Point, Mayaro, all the way up to Toco—to join in and help with the search.

The last reported GPS coordinates for Reinaldo are said to be 1027711  06043332, some 18 miles off Manzanilla Point.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Reinaldo Novoa is asked to contact Brian on +1-868-303-5276; or his son Robbie on +1-868-290-8636.
