Seven persons were arrested and quantities of ammunition and marijuana found by officers of the St Joseph Criminal Investigations Department during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Northern Division on Sunday.
Police said in a statement that officers conducted the exercise between 3 am and 8:55 am on Sunday, during which they executed several search warrants in the Division.
The searches resulted in 125 rounds of 5.56 ammunition along with a part for an AR-15 rifle being found in an open field at North Bank Road, Piarco and 200 grammes of marijuana being found in the St Joseph district.
Officers also arrested seven persons from the Piarco and St Joseph districts for varying offences.
Meanwhile, one man was arrested and a quantity of marijuana seized by officers of the North Eastern Division during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Blanchisseuse district on Sunday. Officers conducted the exercise between 7:45 am and 3:15 pm, during which they proceeded seven kilometres into a hilly area leading to Paria Bay, where they found a male suspect with one kilogramme of marijuana in his possession.
The man, a 26-year-old of Upper Village, Blanchisseuse, was arrested in connection with the find.
Acting on information received, the officers went to another area in the Paria Bay district, where they discovered a marijuana field containing 100 fully grown marijuana trees and 400 seedlings.
Police say the trees and seedlings were uprooted and destroyed.
