SEWA TT says it has raised close to half a million dollars to assist victims of COVID-19 in India, as well as persons stricken by the volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Speaking with Guardian Media today, the head of Sewa TT, Reevan Teelucksingh, said some $112,000 has been raised for India. He said the monies went directly to SEWA USA for the purchase of oxygen concentrators, as they had built a strong relationship with the manufacturers. He said the concentrators are purchased at a cost of $500 US dollars each.  He also noted that SEWA UK also has been working towards getting oxygen concentrators to assist India.

Teelucksingh also revealed that SEWA Bharat currently is on the ground in India, providing food support for persons under lock down.

With regard to the St Vincent humanitarian aid drive, the SEWA TT head described that as phenomenal, with over $300,000 collected for the volcano victims.

Teelucksingh said both the India and St Vincent aid drives would be closed on May 10th, 2021, in order for SEWA to resume its assistance to victims of the fallout of COVID-19 in T&T.

The SEWA TT head is encouraging persons to donate to the organisation’s humanitarian aid initiatives by visiting sewa.org, or calling 333-SEWA (333-7392).
