Sewa International TT (Sewa TT) is donating 1,000 KN95 Masks to every secondary school in Trinidad and Tobago, a total of 184,000 masks, over the next three weeks to the 184 secondary schools in the education system.
According to an official statement from Sewa TT, this is a continuation of their Mask Distribution Project begun in April, last year.
“These TT$2 million value in masks have been donated through Sewa USA and Sewa UK, whilst all taxes and duties have been paid from Sewa TT’s Emergency Fund,” the organisation revealed in the release.
“Always in preparedness, as Sewa TT Mass Vaccination planning took place in December 2020 and was the first Mass Vaccination site to be activated, vaccinating 85,000+ people, Sewa TT also prepared for the reopening of schools. As an extension of the Mask Distribution Project started in April 2020, this extension is focused on the schools and the hard-working teachers and students,” the organisation explains.
Sewa TT says given the current state of the pandemic, schools must have emergency masks available for teachers and students.
“It is extremely important for every school to have a stock of masks for students and teachers as replacements in the event that one needs to be replaced during school contact hours. Masks can fall, some can get dirty, extra masks may be left at home, or some homes may not be able to afford to have extra masks,” Sewa TT says.
To date, Sewa TT has donated:
■ 10,000 Reusable masks made by volunteers to Prisoners
■ 20,000 Reusable Masks Made by Volunteers to the homeless and low-income persons
■ 10,000 KN95 Masks to Prison Officers
■ 40,000 KN95 Masks in 2020 to the Ministry of Health
