The Single Mothers Association of T&T (SMATT) distributed some 50 hampers to needy persons on Monday.
The charitable event took place at the Flaming Word Ministries, Caroni Savannah Road, Chaguanas.
Shermaine Wichkam-Howe, president and founder of SMATT, invited single mothers to apply to her organization for assistance. She told Guardian Media the Hampers were donated by the Ministry of Agriculture, and bread being donated by the Kiss Baking Company.
“We will be distributing a dry goods hamper very soon,” she said. “We are just waiting on clearance. We did this one because we got permission, today.”
“We are distributing to mothers who would have reach out to us on our Facebook page. We are here to help and if you need help, and you are in a predicament, reach out through our Facebook page,” she encouraged.
Pastor Leah Radix, pastor at Flaming Word Ministries, said more and more people are crying out for help. Pastor Radix she was grateful to SMATT for the role they play in assisting needy families.
The hampers were distributed via a drive-by, with volunteers placing the loaded bags in the vehicles that brought the beneficiaries.
