The Congress of the People (COP) has chosen Kirt Sinnette as the interim Political Leader, on the heels of the resignation of Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan, last week, following the 2020 General Election.

The news came in an official release issued by the party’s chairman, Lonsdale Williams.

According to the statement, an emergency National Council Meeting was held on Saturday 15th August 2020, at which the decision was made to have Mr Sinnette function as Interim Political Leader, until the party membership can vote in a new Political Leader.

That leadership election is due in December 2020.

Kirt Sinnette was the COP’s candidate for the Laventille West seat in the recently concluded 2020 General Election. He had managed to secure only 47 votes.

The 46-year-old is a former national boxer, lovingly nicknamed “The Technician”. He fought in the Light Heavyweight division, and has a career record of 22 wins, three losses and no draws.

He is a former WBC (World Boxing Council) and CABOFE (Caribbean Boxing Federation) light heavyweight champion.
