Days after Geeta Newman was found dead inside her home, her sister and brother-in-law have been charged with her murder.

Radica Resaulsingh, 53, and her common-law husband Marlon McKain, 46, appeared before San Fernando Magistrate Kerianne Byer via video conference yesterday.

Newman, 50, was found by the police on June 16. The officers received certain information and went to her apartment at Southern Main Road, Plaisance Park, Pointe-a-Pierre, where they found Newman’s body on a mattress. The accused were allegedly at the apartment at the time. They were charged by PC Neesham Ali of the Homicide Bureau of the Investigations Region 3.

An autopsy revealed that Newman died from asphyxia and blunt trauma to the head.

The magistrate transferred six outstanding warrants for McKain in connection with robbery offences to the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court. He also had a bench warrant for a 2014 attempted murder. Resaulsingh was represented by attorney Alysa Habib while Sgt Harold Ishmael prosecuted in the matter. The couple was remanded into custody and the case was adjourned to July 24.
