Soc Devt Ministry to explore new ways to tackle poverty

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services will be hosting a Poverty Webinar on Wednesday 20th October, 2021, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The event is being held to commemorateInternational Day for the Eradication of Poverty. The public is being invited to participate in the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services’ Poverty Webinar on Wednesday 20th October, 2021, beginning at 9:00AM.

The event is being held in commemoration of International Day for the Eradication of Poverty under the theme: ‘Building Forward Together: Ending Persistent Poverty, Respecting all People and our Planet.

Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Senator the Honourable Donna Cox will deliver the keynote address. Other speakers include Dr. Acolla Lewis-Cameron, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, The UWI, St. Augustine; Professor Paula Morgan, University Director, Institute of Gender and Development Studies, The UWI Headquarters, Jamaica; Professor Karl Theodore, Former Director, UWI-HEU; Mrs. Avonelle Hector-Joseph, Founder and Team leader of NGO: Is There Not a Cause; Ms. Ruqayyah Scott, Economics Student, The UWI, St. Augustine and Dr. Ralph Henry, Chairman of Kairi Consultants Ltd delivering presentations on Gender and Poverty, Health and Poverty Nexus, the Role of Civil Society, Environment and Poverty and Ending Persistent Poverty.

The event is coordinated by the Ministry’s Social Investigations Division in collaboration with the HEU Centre for Health Economics at The UWI, St Augustine.
