Tobago police are probing the circumstances under which a soldier and his friend were shot on Sunday night.

Kevin Manswell 45, of Mon Repos, San Fernando, a member of the T&T Regiment and his friend Harold Pierre 48, a fisherman of Coco Watty Trace, Mason Hall, were warded at the Scarborough General Hospital up to late yesterday in a stable condition.

According to a police report, around 9 pm Manswell and Pierre were liming at Sandy River, Mason Hall.

Police said the men saw a man dressed in a dark blue jacket with the word “police” written at the back. The man was armed with a firearm walking towards a house in the area.

Manswell and Pierre reportedly heard several loud explosion.

Police said the man then pointed the firearm in their direction and fired several shots.

Manswell and Pierre ran in an attempt to take cover. However, Manswell sustained gunshot wounds to his left thigh and his right ankle while Pierre was wounded in the left foot.

Guardian Media understands that several spent shells were recovered at the scene. No one has been held in connection with the shooting.

Sgt Piggott of the Scarborough CID is continuing investigations.
