Soldier, police officer, hurt in Toco crash

A police officer and soldier were injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling in ran off the Toco Road and crashed into a precipice yesterday morning. Both are warded in stable condition at the Sangre Grande Hospital.

Kenton Walcott, a soldier and cousin of Olympic Gold medallist Keshorn Walcott and PC Simeon Blake were in a white 323 Mazda heading north along the Toco Road, Cumana. Near Chennette Trace, the vehicle spun out control and ended up in a precipice about 20 feet off the road. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle flipped several times.

The injured men were rescued by villagers and officers attached to Toco Police Station and EHS ambulance arrived within minutes. They were taken to the Toco Health Facility then transferred to Sangre Grande Hospital where they underwent emergency surgery. Both have broken legs and internal injuries.

Toco police are continuing investigation.
