Soca and dancehall songwriter, Jivrelle Joseph has temporarily changed careers and is now mastering his skills as a designer of pavers and stepping stones.

The San Fernando resident has taken a break from deejaying and songwriting and is working as a junior mason with his father Hayden Joseph, to make decorative footpaths for gardens.

Joseph, 24, said it all started when he tried his hand at making pavers for his aunt, and realised it was a lucrative skill to help him take care of his family, which includes his two-year-old daughter. However, he is not giving up his career as a DJ since that is his passion.

“Well as we can see, COVID-19 come and lick up everything. There are no DJ jobs right now. From doing DJ, I transitioned into songwriting.

“I have awards that I received from primary and secondary school for songwriting. I have a soca song in store for Denise Belfon, but she is out of the country at the moment,” he said.

Joseph, who is working for Joseph Sr Construction Company, is currently focusing his creativity to bring beauty and ambience, to private and commercial landscapes with his signature designs. He has been making circle and square stepping stones and is moving into octagon and hexagon shapes.

He said with the Christmas season approaching, stepping stones are sought after decorative finishes for home improvement projects.
