SRP officer charged with rape gets $200K bail

A 55-year-old Special Reserve Officer was charged with rape, grievous sexual assault, common assault, and choking with intent to commit an indictable offence namely rape. He appeared virtually before Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay at the Arima Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 8th February, 2022 where he was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with a surety. A Special Reserve Police Officer was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with a surety when he appeared virtually before Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay at the Arima Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 8th February, 2022.

The Special Reserve Police Officer, 55, of Valsayn was charged with rape, grievous sexual assault, common assault, and choking with intent to commit an indictable offence namely rape.

He was charged with the offences by PC Garcia of the La Horquetta Police Station on Monday 7th February, 2022.

The accused is expected to reappear in court on Thursday 21st July, 2022.

According to a police report, on Friday 14th January, 2022 a woman was at her home, when her former boyfriend visited and requested to speak with her. She allowed him into the house where he allegedly held he down, had sexual intercourse with her without her consent, committed an act of grievous sexual assault and choked her during the act.

Investigations were co-ordinated by Snr. Supt. Paponette, ASP Etienne and Insp. Ward and supervised by Ag. Sgt. Haynes and Cpl. Ramcharan attached to the La Horquetta Criminal Investigation Department (CID)who were assisted by officers attached to the Cyber and Social Media Unit. As a result of the investigations the accused was arrested and subsequently charged.
