Young people between the ages of 16 and 24 years will benefit soon from a new initiative to provide them with digital skills training, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between YTEPP Limited and the Rotary Club of St. Augustine.

The agreement was signed on Monday 16th August 2021, at YTEPP’s Woodford Lodge Training Campus.

St Augustine Rotary Club President, Dr. Rishi Sharma, observes that with Government’s thrust of digital transformation, and the quick progression of the use of ICT as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, young men and women have been challenged with navigating the online environment.

He says this new partnership with YTEPP to provide Digital Skills Training to young persons in the community is timely.

Dr Sharma explains: “The Rotary Club of St. Augustine has been on a path toward youth development, and we felt that a required skill in today’s environment was a necessity to give youth the opportunity to be active participants in this new normal.”

“It was on this basis that the Rotary Club sponsored a $10,000 [grant] to YTEPP Limited, to deliver digital literacy training to 20 young citizens of the St. Augustine district,” he added.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of YTEPP, Thora Best, indicated that YTEPP’s thrust has been—and continues to be—one of youth-centric development through quality training with real results, from community to community, and with the support of NGOs and corporate entities.

Chief Executive Officer of YTEPP, Nigel Parris, noted that such training is now a necessity.

“On the heels of digital transformation, our young citizens must be skilled, entrepreneurially minded and digitally savvy. YTEPP Limited is well poised to create that new generation worker or entrepreneur,” he said.

Signing the Memorandum of Understanding for a partnership geared toward youth development, were Nigel Parris, Chief Executive Officer at YTEPP; Dr. Rishi Sharma, President of the Rotary Club of St. Augustine; and Thora Best, Chairman of the Board of Directors of YTEPP, who signed as a witness.
