St Barb’s man killed after shooting at police

A man described as well-known to the police was shot and killed by officers of the Port-of-Spain Task Force after he reportedly shot at officers.

According to police reports, around 8.25 pm on Sunday officers of the Port-of-Spain Task Force responded to a report of a man, wearing a red T-shirt and white three-quarter shorts, armed with a gun at St Barb’s Road, Laventille.

The officers, on arrival at the location, observed a man fitting the description.

The man, later identified as Anthony Daniel of Limer’s Corner, St Barbs Road, attempted to flee on foot.

The officers gave chase. Daniel allegedly shot at the officers who, fearful for their lives, returned fire striking him.

According to police reports, the police officers took Daniel to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

None of the officers involved in the incident was injured.

Police said Daniel had been charged for robbery in the Central Division in 2020 and was out on bail.

A high powered firearm was seized by officers of the Port-of-Spain Task Force after the incident.
