A 41-year-old man has been detained in connection with the murder of Fyzabad mother of two, Tenile Cupid.

The suspect, a close male relative, was arrested by police at his home in Fyzabad, around midday on Wednesday.

The police were told by relatives that they last saw Cupid with him on Monday night. 23-year-old Cupid reportedly went with the man to get something to eat on Monday night, around 10:20 pm; however, she never returned to her mother’s home at Easy Street, Fyzabad.

On Tuesday, her mother Nathalie Monzano reported her missing to the police after calls to her cell-phone went unanswered.

Later that day, at about 3:15 pm, a WASA employee stumbled upon her body in a forested area at Well #8 off Syncline Road, Santa Flora. She was nude and bore a wound to her head.

Tenile Cupid had returned to her mother’s home about three weeks ago after she broke off a relationship. Though she never complained of being abused, relatives said they heard from other people that she had been abused.

Cupid was a CEPEP worker and had two children, ages four and seven years.

An autopsy is expected to be done soon at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.
