Officers attached to the Couva Police Station arrested a man for possession of a firearm and ammunition yesterday.
According to police reports, around 5.30 pm, WPC Evans and PC Villafana were on mobile patrol along the Tabaquite Main Road in the vicinity of Tabaquite Heights Housing Development. There, they observed a man walking east along the said roadway holding an object resembling that of a firearm.
The officers stopped the vehicle alongside the suspect. He dropped the firearm on the side of the pavement. The officers apprehended the suspect who was suffering from a wound to his forehead. He stated that a man burst his head and he was going to deal with him.
PC Villafana then took possession of the firearm which contained one 12-gauge cartridge. The suspect was searched and the officers found seven rounds of 12-gauge cartridges in his pants pocket. He was arrested and conveyed to the Couva Health Facility where he was examined and referred to the San Fernando General Hospital. PC Villafana is continuing enquiries.
