38 million

World: 38 million pieces of garbage found on one Pacific Island

Henderson Island, a tiny, uninhabited island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, halfway between New Zealand and Chile, is estimated to have 38 million pieces of trash washed up on the beaches, the highest recorded.

Almost all of the garbage found on Henderson Island was made from plastic.

There were toy soldiers, dominos, toothbrushes and hundreds of hardhats of every shape, size and colour.
