Garcia’s wish: “Every child receiving quality education at any school in T&T…”

Education minister, Anthony Garcia, has revealed his personal dream for the children of this country.

In a personal message in observance of Universal Children’s Day 2019, the minister says hopes to see one day that every child can receive a quality education at any school in this country.

The minister also makes an appeal for all hands on deck, to help the ministry achieve this goal.

Funeral Service today for Sat Maharaj, Maha Sabha Sec-Gen

The funeral service for the long-serving Secretary-General of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha, Satnarayan Maharaj, took place today.

With hundreds in attendance, the service started just after his body arrived at Maha Sabha headquarters in St Augustine at 8.27 am on Tuesday.

As his body was brought in, pundits and the congregation sang the theme song of the Maha Sabha, Kaho Ek Baar.

Reality struck one young woman who rushed to the front where his body was being placed with tears in her eyes. The realisation of the loss of a man she saw as a guru was too much for her.

Garcia: Nothing sinister in scholarships delay

Education Minister Anthony Garcia says there is nothing sinister regarding the as yet-unannounced 2019 CAPE Scholarship results.

Seeking to reassure students and their parents, Garcia said, “We have to make sure we are very careful in deciding.”

“The performance of our students has been very good, excellent in fact. And therefore we have to make sure that in making these decisions we give everybody an equal chance.”

GARCIA: Tobago father’s actions must be condemned

Education Minister, Anthony Garcia, has condemned the actions of a Tobago father who joined in a fight among school children from Roxborough Secondary School, to protect his daughter from harm.

Minister Garcia was commenting on the recent video which went viral in social media, and assures that the matter is being investigated by the THA Chief Secretary, Kelvin Charles, who has responsibility for education matters in Tobago.

Garcia assures school woes will be fixed

Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion An­tho­ny Gar­cia said yes­ter­day he is hop­ing to get a re­port from the Min­istry of Works be­fore the end of this week on the di­lap­i­dat­ed main build­ing of the Fyz­abad An­gli­can Sec­ondary school, in or­der to com­mis­sion work on the school’s cen­tral block.

He said de­pend­ing on what the re­ports con­clud­ed, class­es for the school may be moved to a lo­ca­tion close to Her­itage Pe­tro­le­um Com­pa­ny Lim­it­ed.

No school funeral for Sandman

The funeral service for Vaughn “Sand­man” Mieres and his wife Ali­ka “Let­ty” De­here can not be held at the Las Cuevas Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School, Minister of Education Anthony Garcia confirmed on Wednesday.

On Tues­day a dig­i­tal fly­er be­gan cir­cu­lat­ing on so­cial me­dia an­nounc­ing the fu­ner­al ser­vice for Mieres and his wife would be held at the school on Friday.

The Minister explained that no funeral have ever been held in schools around the country, and this service would not be the one to set a precedent.
