Residents panic as bush fire ravages abandoned oil wells

Res­i­dents of Pe­nal Rock Road broke out in­to pan­ic on Sun­day af­ter a bush fire en­gulfed two oil wells, fu­elling fear of an ex­plo­sion.

How­ev­er, fire­fight­ers were able to get the blaze un­der con­trol with no loss to prop­er­ty and no in­juries.

Apart from a house about 100 feet away, the wells are sit­u­at­ed in a bushy area a few feet away from the road at the one and three quar­ter mile mark. How­ev­er, there are hous­es on the op­po­site side of the road.

Bush fire leads to death of 9-year-old boy

A nine-year-old asthmatic boy succumbed to injuries he sustained during a fire at his home.

Hezekiah Hospedales, died yesterday from complication associated with smoke inhalation after a bush fire trapped him in his home at Febeau Village, San Juan.

His mother, Shaleza Theodore- Hospedales also suffered severe burns to 50 percent of her body, and is warded at hospital.

According to reports, the bush fire started around 9:30am, in a housing settlement near Lahore Road.

Residents attempted to prevent the spreading of the fire to other homes.
