Taxi driver to appear in court for assaulting cop

A taxi driver is expected to appear before a Chaguanas magistrate today, charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly behaviour.

The 31-year-old Chaguanas man was arrested at Busy Corner, Chaguanas, on Thursday afternoon, following an incident with the police.

Police Constables Villafana and Ramdeen of the Chaguanas Foot Patrol were issuing the man tickets for two traffic offences, when he flew into a rage and began insulting the officers.

Trafficking charges laid on pastor; top cop feels vindicated

The Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, is calling out those who questioned the investigation of Pastor Glenn Awong of Transformed Life Ministry. 

In a Facebook post, the commissioner told his detractors that the charges of trafficking, false imprisonment and kidnapping of 69 people laid against Awong spoke for themselves.

Charges coming for bus driver

Police are moving to lay a charge of involuntary manslaughter against a Central bus driver more than a week after a toddler died in her care.

The 31-year-old woman, who has retained a lawyer, will spend the weekend detained as police finalize the process of laying a charge.

 Police said the last set of interviews was expected to be completed yesterday following which a file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions with recommendations. 

Two charged with possession of marijuana

Two men are expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate today, charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Kristus Rampersadsingh, 32, a loans officer, of California, Chaguanas, and Kevin Thomas, 38, a labourer, of McShine Lane, Belmont, were arrested and charged by officers of the Port of Spain Task Force, who were on mobile patrol in the Sea Lots, Port of Spain district, Sunday 27th May, 2018.

While on patrol around 7:15pm, officers had cause to stop and search a silver Nissan Navara motor vehicle being driven by Rampersadsingh.

Well-known police inspector charged with assault

A well-known police inspector has been charged with assault occasion bodily harm and will receive a summons to appear in court in February.

The charges were laid against Inspector Roger Alexander on the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Alexander is accused of having carried out the assault on a Laventille man in Santa Cruz last July.

The complainant had alleged that he had been beaten by Alexander as he worked as a labourer on a piece of land.

The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) also got involved in the matter.

Three SRPs charged with misbehaviour in public office

Three special reserve police officers have appeared before Chief Magistrate, Marcia AyersCaesar, charged with misbehavior in public office for corruptly soliciting money from a man whom they had wrongfully accused of human trafficking, a statement by the Police Service said.

No.6656 PC Ronald Modeste, No.5516 PC Nicholas Henry and No. 5351 PC Anderson Richards were each placed on bail in the sum of $90,000, $80,000 and $60,000 respectively when they appeared in the Port of Spain 8th Magistrate Court yesterday, December 5th, 2016.

Police undecided about possible charges against hospital intern

Senior police officers are undecided about how to proceed with investigations against the medical intern who fabricated a story of her robbery at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (PoSGH) on Sunday night.

The officers said yesterday the young woman had not filed an official police report, thereby eliminating the possibility of them being able to charge her with wasteful employment of police time, although they noted she created public panic and sparked outrage among her colleagues.
