The son of a well-known gang leader currently is in police custody.
The suspect was detained by officers of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) in Couva just after 9 this morning.
Senior intelligence sources told Guardian Media that police recovered one firearm and ammunition so far at a house in Sonny Ladoo Trace, Mc Bean Couva.
Police also seized more than $50,000 in cash.
The operation was driven by intelligence obtained by SORT and is ongoing.
The detained man’s father currently is in prison.

At least one UNIPET Gas Station in Central Trinidad Trinidad opened on Tuesday.
A spokesman for the Trader James Gas Station said supplies came in around 10 pm on Monday and sales of liquid fuel returned to normal on Tuesday.

A revolver and quantities of ammunition and marijuana were discovered by officers of the Central Division during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Claxton Bay district yesterday.
According to police reports, officers of the Chaguanas and Couva CIDs proceeded to Pranz Gardens, Claxton Bay, where they conducted a search.
The search resulted in officers finding the firearm, along with four rounds of ammunition and 3.13 kilogrammes of marijuana. The drug has an estimated street value of $31,300.
Investigations are ongoing.
A pistol and a magazine are discovered during an anti-crime exercise conducted by officers of the Central Division, in the Couva district.
The exercise led by Sgt. Sunil Ramdial, of the Couva Criminal Investigations Department (CID), also included a party of officers attached to the Couva Police Station.
According to police reports, officers proceeded to the abandoned Community Centre along Greg Street, Balmain, Williams Street, around 3:45 pm, on August 20th and conducted a search.
A 30-year-old man has been shot and killed in Couva.
Reports indicate that on Monday evening, Charles Baird of Longdenville, was in the company of a woman along the roadway at Balmain Village, Couva, when he was accosted by two men.
An altercation ensued and one of the assailants opened fire on Baird hitting him multiple times about the body.
The police and emergency health services were contacted and Baird was taken to the Couva District Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A Couva woman has been granted $5000 own bail, when she appeared before a Justice of the Peace on Friday for falsely reporting that she and her 6-year-old son were kidnapped from their home by four men.
Sapna Chinya, 32, a housewife, of Carli Bay Road, Couva, was charged with wasteful employment of the police, and is expected to appear before a Couva Magistrate on Thursday 24th May, 2018.
The body of an unidentified man was found in Couva yesterday.
A photo was shared on social media showing the victim’s head almost severed from the body.
According to a police report, at about 8 am a passerby notified police officers that they found a body of a man lying face up at the side of the road at Exchange Branch Road.
The man was dressed in a pair of long blue jeans, a light blue vest and a plaid blue, white and khaki coloured short-sleeved shirt.
Police found several spent 9 mm casings near the body.
Arson is suspected in a fire which destroyed a Couva restaurant and bar yesterday morning.
Ten people employed at the Bat and Barrel Restaurant and Sports Bar at Rivulet Road are now without jobs. However, no injuries were reported from the blaze.
According to reports, the fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday shortly after a group of men accosted the security guard. A senior employee, who did not want to be named, said he was told three or four men tied up the security officer in the booth.
Police seize AK-47 rifle during anti-crime exercise in Couva.

Officers conducted the exercise, between 12:00pm and 4:00pm, on Saturday 18th November, 2017.
