Wrecking, DUI tests to be enforced around CPL semis & finals

The Police Service says it will be observing strict traffic and security arrangements for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) semi-final match on Friday, and the final on Sunday, which are both scheduled to take place at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

Motorists are being advised that there will be no parking allowed on the Solomon Hochoy Highway, from the Gasparillo Overpass to the Ste. Madeleine/Corinth Overpass.

Judge back in court on charge of driving under influence

The drunk driving case against recently appointed High Court judge Kevin Ramcharan continues and State prosecutors have been given the all clear to correct a clerical error in the matter.

The case came up again at the Port-of-Spain Magistrate's Court today before magistrate Duane Murray who granted the DPP's application to amend the charge. 

At the first hearing, officers admitted having mistakenly written the charge under the wrong section of the motor vehicle and Road Traffic Act.

Judge appears in court; matter adjourned

The court matter involving a driving-under-the-influence charge against Justice Kevin Ramcharan has been adjourned to July.

Ramcharan appeared in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates' Sixth Court Monday morning to answer the charge after allegedly failing a breathalyser test in Maraval Saturday night.

When he appeared by Magistrate Duane Murray, the charge was not read as the police prosecutor made an application to amend the charge.

16 charged with driving under the influence over the weekend

Sixteen motorists were arrested and charged with driving under the influence following traffic exercises in the Southwestern Division over the weekend, a police statement said.

The first exercise, which took place in the San Fernando district between 11pm on Friday 31st March, 2017 and 5am on Saturday 1st April, 2017, resulted in a total of 65 persons being administered breathalyser tests.

Of those tested, 11 persons were arrested and charged with the offence of driving under the influence.

Mayor Paul pleads not guilty to DUI charge

Point Fortin Mayor Clyde Paul pleaded not guilty on a charge of driving under the influence, when he appeared in court today.

Paul appeared before Magistrate Alicia Chankar who read the charge to him in the Point Fortin Second Magistrates Court.

It is alleged that on Tuesday evening on the Southern Main Road, Rousillac he drove PBE 1999 after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion on his breath exceeding the prescribed limit.

He was represented by attorney James Philbert instructed by Derek Dindial and attorney Samuel.

23 charged with driving under the influence of alcohol

Twenty-three drivers were arrested on the weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol, a statement from the Police Service said.

Police say a total of 90 people have died in road accidents for the year.

The following is a statement from the Police Service.

"The Highway Patrol DUI Task Force last weekend arrested twenty three (23) drivers for driving with a breath alcohol level exceeding the prescribed limit.

Police officer charged with DUI

A police officer from the Northern Division appeared before a Chaguanas Magistrate today charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and refusing to submit to a breathalyser test.

On Friday last, Curtis Regarldo, 41, from La Pastora, Lopinot was involved in an accident on the Southern Main Road, Curepe. 

WPC Roberts responded to the scene where she noticed that Regarldo had blood-shot eyes, smelt of alcohol and had slurred speech.
