"Soon," was Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley's response to reporters yesterday when they asked him when the date for Local Government elections will be announced.
Rowley the reply at a media conference about his recent trip to the United States. Local Government polls are constitutionally due between November and early February. PNM officials have projected that the election will be held later this year since Carnival 2020 takes place early next year.

The projections came yesterday after Imbert announced the budget’s delivery date during a brief statement in Parliament yesterday.
The National Union of Government & Federated Workers's (NUGFW's) National Executive Council elections will be held on October 28th, when they are constitutionally due.
The election was scheduled to take place today but President General James Lambert said it didn’t take place because the opposing side, Team Shield, served him with a pre-action protocol letter stating that the election was unconstitutionally brought forward.
Lambert said that was incorrect and that his team, Team Faithful, followed all protocols before advancing the date.

Nominations for candidates will take place at the party’s headquarters from July 1 to 31 between 9 am and 4 pm. Forms are available at the headquarters and online. Candidates will be screened following nomination.
