Trinidad and Tobago Olympic swimmer George Bovell III is responding to those questioning the timing of his criticism against the world governing swimming body, FINA.
Bovell slammed the organisation on Thursday for not doing enough to eradicate doping in swimming.
A report in the UK Guardian says that George Bovell III is bowing out of international competition and has lashed out at the international swimming federation, FINA, for not cracking down on doping within the sport.
The Guardian's article was published just after 4pm Thursday and the Guardian says Bovell spoke to the newspaper after placing 3rd in his Rio Olympic heat Thursday.
George Bovell swam 22.30 to place 3rd in the 50 metres freestyle preliminaries in Rio.
However, his time was not enough to get him into the semi-finals tonight.
Only the swimmers with the top 16 times go through.
Bovell swam in lane 7 in Heat 8 at 12.16 Thursday afternoon.
