India puts record 104 satellites into space with a single launch

An Indian rocket blasted off Wednesday morning from Sriharikota in eastern India putting a record 104 satellites into space in a single launch, surpassing Russia’s previous feat of launching 37 satellites one year ago, according to India’s space agency.

The launch also marked a milestone in the country’s efforts to emerge as a serious contender in the multi-billion dollar global commercial space industry by slashing costs.

Besides a 714 kilogram earth observation satellite, the others were mostly nano satellites — those weighing up to 10 kilograms.

Three held in India with cocaine exported from T&T

Anti-narcotics officers in India have arrested three persons, including a Nigerian, and seized drugs worth $3 million (T&T currency) as they unearthed an alleged drug racket being run with supply coming from foreign shores. 

Officials said the action was carried out by the Delhi zonal unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) after they intercepted an incoming foreign parcel that contained 500 gms of cocaine.

NCB officials, they said, found that the Nigerian was the alleged kingpin of the racket with aid from two locals. 

India, West Indies to play two T20 matches in Florida this month

The Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) Working Committee today gave its nod to the India cricket team to participate in two T20I matches against the West Indies on August 27th and 28th in the United States.

India are currently playing a four-match Test series against the Caribbean side.

Both the matches will be played at the Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, US.

West Indies batsman Lendl Simmons has revealed that it was the "arrogance" of India's Virat Kohli that fired him up for his match-winning 82 runs in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.

When Simmons came in to bat, West Indies were reeling at 19 for 2 while chasing 193 but he scored an unbeaten 51-ball 82 to guide the West Indies to the final at India's expense.
