New TTUTA Executive installed today

The new executive of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) will be sworn in today.

Antonia De Freitas was elected as TTUTA's president on October 22nd.

This is the first time a woman has been elected to the lead the organization.

She won with 3,623 votes, which was 297 more than the other presidential candidate Nirmala Chinebas-Dindial.

De Freitas was officially installed and presented with her instrument of appointment this morning, at TTUTA's head office in Curepe.

Robert Farrier has resigned as Cycling president

Robert Farrier has resigned as president of the T&T Cycling Federation. In a letter obtained by CNC3 Sports, Farrier said he resigned the post with immediate effect, citing "the level of volunteerism needed to lead, drive and propel the TTCF, and the sport further can no longer be sustained due to my other commitments."

Paula-Mae to get $1.4m pension

T&T Pres­i­dent Paula-Mae Weekes will stand to col­lect a pen­sion of $1.4m an­nu­al­ly un­der Gov­ern­ment’s pro­posed pen­sion amend­ments, UNC Sen­a­tor Wade Mark said yes­ter­day.

He said the Op­po­si­tion had cal­cu­lat­ed the ben­e­fits to be ac­crued un­der the pen­sion amend­ment pro­posed by Gov­ern­ment for in­creased pen­sions for the Prime Min­is­ter, Pres­i­dent, judges and leg­is­la­tors.

President: Abuse of the elderly appalling

Abuse of the el­der­ly is an ap­palling, but un­for­tu­nate­ly, per­va­sive vi­o­la­tion of hu­man rights and dig­ni­ty.

So said Pres­i­dent Paula-Mae Weekes in a mes­sage in ob­ser­vance of World El­der Abuse Aware­ness Day.

World El­der Abuse Aware­ness Day seeks to high­light the in­jus­tices of­ten met­ed out to old­er per­sons world­wide in the form of phys­i­cal, fi­nan­cial, psy­cho­log­i­cal, and even sex­u­al abuse.

President praises T&T multi-religious heritage

Pres­i­dent Paula--Mae Weekes be­lieves that this coun­try’s na­tion­al iden­ti­ty and ethos have been for­ti­fied by the en­dur­ing Is­lam­ic tenets of peace, for­give­ness and tol­er­ance.

The Pres­i­dent spoke to this coun­try’s mul­ti-re­li­gious and mul­ti- cul­tura; iden­ti­ty in her mes­sage to the coun­try on the ob­ser­vance of Eid-ul-Fitr.

On the sight­ing of the new cres­cent moon, I bring greet­ings to the mem­bers of the Mus­lim com­mu­ni­ty as they cel­e­brate Eid-ul-Fitr and the end of the holy month of Ra­madan.
