Int’l: Officer raised alarm over Ukraine call—Trump impeachment:

A security staffer who listened to the call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine says he was concerned by the demands for a probe into a Trump rival.

Alexander Vindman, a decorated army veteran, told Congress he reported his objections to pressuring Ukraine to investigate Democrat Joe Biden twice.

Col Vindman is the first White House official who heard the call to testify as a part of the impeachment inquiry.

The inquiry concerns alleged abuse of power by the president.

Russian ship arrives in T&T tomorrow

Four months af­ter a Russ­ian sur­veil­lance ship left T&T, the Min­istry of For­eign and Cari­com Af­fairs has giv­en naval clear­ance for an­oth­er Russ­ian ship to dock in T&T’s ter­ri­to­r­i­al wa­ters to­mor­row..

The medi­um-sized Russ­ian Navy sea tanker ship, named Ka­ma from the Russ­ian Navy North­ern Fleet, is ex­pect­ed to en­ter and berth in T&T’s wa­ters be­tween to­mor­row and Thurs­day.

In a con­fi­den­tial doc­u­ment leaked to Guardian Me­dia, the min­istry ex­tend­ed com­pli­ments to the Em­bassy of the Russ­ian Fed­er­a­tion.

International: Trump tells Russia to get its troops out of Venezuela

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday called on Russia to pull its troops from Venezuela and warned that "all options" were open to make that happen.

"Russia has to get out," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, where he met with Fabiana Rosales, the wife of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido.

Two Russian air force planes landed outside Caracas on Saturday carrying nearly 100 Russian troops.

The US government believes the troops include special forces and cybersecurity personnel.

Around the World: Russian helicopter crash kills 18

Russia's emergencies ministry said the MI-8 went down at 10:20 local time.
All those on board were killed. 
The helicopter was reportedly taking workers to an oil station.
 A criminal investigation is underway.
Initial assessments have suggested that the aircraft's blades struck cargo being carried by another helicopter just after take-off. 
The second helicopter was able to land safely.
The Russian Transport Ministry said the incident happened in "normal" weather conditions.

 

International: Trump, Putin agree to hold summit

Russia and the US have agreed to hold a summit between President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump.

Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov said the summit would take place in a mutually-convenient third country and that several more weeks were needed for preparations.

He said Moscow and Washington would announce the time and place of the summit on Thursday.

Russia opens World Cup with 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia

Hosts Russia roared its World Cup intent to the rafters with a 5-0 tournament-opening win over Saudi Arabia in the opening game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The Russians served up an adrenaline-fuelled performance for an 80,000-capacity Luzhniki crowd that included President Vladimir Putin and the Saudi crown prince.

The Saudis, ranked three places above Russia at 67 in the world rankings, played some nice, tight football at times, but were never able to match the Russian hosts for energy or intent. 

T&T finishes 10th at Indoor Hockey World Cup

T&T's stickmen finished tenth at the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup on Saturday morning after Losing 3-2 to Russia in their final game.

Within the first ten minutes, the Russians rushed out front with a 2-0 lead. First, in the sixth minute, Dmitriy Kuraev scored then four minutes later, Pavel Golubev doubled the lead.

In the 20th minute, Jordan Vieira pulled a goal back for the local boys, before Akim Toussaint leveled the scores in the 33rd minute.
