TTPS ready for anything this Carnival—Young and Griffith

“The safest place in T&T is inside a Carnival fete…”

So says Police Commissioner Gary Griffith, as he weighed in on the current crime situation and the TTPS' readiness for Carnival celebrations.

And the top cop says his men and women officers are equipped and ready to deal with anything and make sure that their presence is felt.

During a drill with various arms of the TTPS at the Police Training Academy on Thursday, Police Commissioner Gary Griffith says the police aren't being trained to use brute force, but rather, to destabilise potential deadly situations.

PCA calls for witnesses to weekend's police shootings

The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) has initiated independent investigations into police shootings this past weekend, a statement by the PCA says.

The PCA says it is aware of the articles and reports in the media of incidents involving fatal and non-fatal police related shootings that took place on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th February, 2017 in the areas of Laventille, Ste. Madeleine and La Romain respectively.

Two dead, five injured in shootings, stabbings during Labour Day J'ouvert celebrations

A man and a woman were killed and five other people were injured in two shootings and two stabbings during J'Ouvert celebrations along the West Indian Day Parade route in Brooklyn early Monday morning, police say.

Two more people were injured when a motorcycle they were on was hit by a car. 

A man and a women were shot at Empire Boulevard and Flatbush Avenue during the pre-parade festivities in Crown Heights shortly before 4 a.m.
