Tobago police destroy 300 marijuana trees

Tobago Division police officers have destroyed almost 300 marijuana trees.

Police say officers went to the Canaan district during an anti-crime exercise on Friday and proceeded to a bushy area.

There they found 253 fully grown marijuana trees, which were destroyed.

No arrests were made and officers have not given a value for the illegal find.

Tobago's war veteran calls out parents on criminal activity

As the world marked the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, Emanuel Legall, 92, World War 11 veteran, says parents are responsible for the current crime wave facing the nation.

Legall, still quite energetic and vocal on topical issues said: "Most of the parents are responsible for stupidness...16 and 17 years old should be going to school still learning something instead of being on the streets." 

Couple in shock as Tobago police kick in wrong door

An el­der­ly cou­ple of Ma­son Hall, To­ba­go, say they have been left trau­ma­tised fol­low­ing an ear­ly morn­ing or­deal with po­lice of­fi­cers of the To­ba­go Task Force.

Eu­ck­lyn Chap­man, 64, and her hus­band, Ce­cil, 69, of Cro­ton Lane, said peo­ple dressed as po­lice of­fi­cers showed up at their res­i­dence around 4 am yes­ter­day and re­quest­ed en­try, but when they protest­ed and asked for the search war­rant, the of­fi­cers broke down their front door val­ued $2,200 and gained ac­cess.

President heads to Tobago for 5 days

President Paula-Mae Weekes is heading to Tobago for five days near the end of January 2019 is has opened her office to meet citizens there and is accepting invitations for that period.

A statement from the Office of the President on Thursday said her decision to be stationed in Tobago for five days is "in keeping with her commitment to serve all of Trinidad and Tobago."

 Weekes, a former Appeal Court judge, who was elected to the nation's highest office, in March intends to periodically execute her duties from Tobago, the release said.

London cab in Tobago marketing plan

As part of the new Tobago branding strategy currently being rolled out at the World Travel Market 2018 in London, a Tobago branded black taxi/cab was unveiled today.

London is known for the famous black cab and this particular black cab will be engaged for a six-month period by the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL), as part of its marketing strategy to promote Tobago in the UK market.

The cab is wrapped in the new branding imagery and includes the ‘Tobago Beyond’ tagline and website.

Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles told the audience that Tobago is still waiting to be discovered.

Sunwing to start Toronto to Tobago flights Dec 20

Sunwing Tours has confirmed an existing agreement with the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) to commence operations with its Toronto to Tobago flight from December 2018.

Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles says Sunwing is presenting a golden opportunity for Tobago, given its expanded operations that include tour operations, airline operations and hotel operations.

Sunwing is a key partner in the Rex chain of properties in the Caribbean, which also includes Rex Turtle Beach Hotel, Tobago.

Flooding hits Mason Hall

Res­i­dents of Ma­son Hall, To­ba­go, are thank­ful no one was hurt when trib­u­taries from the Sandy Riv­er over­flowed their banks yes­ter­day.

At Es­tate Trace, Adel­phi Road, the road­way over a bridge lead­ing to five fam­i­lies flood­ed "sud­den­ly" just af­ter 11 am.

Just over two weeks ago the en­tire trace was paved by the To­ba­go House of As­sem­bly (THA) for the first time since the trace was built to ac­com­mo­date don­key carts over 40 years ago.
