National Prevention Strategy against domestic violence desperately needed

The head of UWI's Gender and Development Studies Institute is urging government to activate a national response to deal with the crisis of domestic violence in this country.

This, as the latest statistics collated by Dr Gabrielle Hosein and her team show that one in three women in T&T is a survivor of intimate partner violence, and that roughly 10,000 women are living in domestic violence situations.

She says it is time the country make a declaration that domestic violence—and especially violence against women—is unacceptable.

Bermudez: T&T not a failed state

Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Robert Bermudez, has declared that Trinidad and Tobago is not a failed state.

Mr Bermudez was, at the time, delivering the feature address during the  Couva Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce (CPLCC) annual end of year function on Wednesday ( 27, November, 2019), at the chamber’s auditorium at Camden Road.

Meet the UWI St. Augustine’s 2019 Valedictorians

From October 24 to 26, the St. Augustine Campus of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) comes alive with ceremony for the Graduating Class of 2019. For each of the six ceremonies over the three days, valedictorians have been selected to deliver the farewell statements on behalf of the graduating classes. They are:

New Student Guild inducted at UWI

The Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies (UWI) St. Au­gus­tine Cam­pus has an­nounced its 2019/2020 Guild of Stu­dents Coun­cil.

The new coun­cil, led by pres­i­dent Justin Subero, was elect­ed by the stu­dent body in March 2019 and of­fi­cial­ly as­sumed of­fice on June 1, 2019. He suc­ceeds Dar­rion Nar­ine.

UWI St Augustine appoints first woman Campus Registrar

 The University of the West Indies (UWI) has appointed Dr Dawn Marie De Four- Gill as the new Campus Registrar and Dr Acolla Lewis-Cameron as the new Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Dr De Four-Gill is the first woman to be appointed Campus Registrar at the St. Augustine Campus.

Within the university system, the Campus Registrar is the most senior administrator on the campus, serving as Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Operating Officer and as Secretary to all campus committees.
