The Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) is investigating statements made by Crime Watch Host Ian Alleyne on his television programme.
On his show on Monday evening Alleyne outrightly questioned the political allegiance of Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram.
While displaying an image of Dr Parasram, Alleyne asked him why he doesn’t “do like Nafeesa, stand up for his people, why don’t you stand up for the Hindu community?”
He then questioned whether Parasram looking for “fame” by being on television.
The statements from Alleyne prompted complaints to be made to TATT.
Acting CEO of the authority Cynthia Reddock-Downes said, “We are looking into it at the moment.”
She told Guardian Media that once the broadcaster, Synergy TV, is found to be in any breach of any regulation it will be informed.
“We will make a determination. It’s a bit early. We are hoping to have a position very shortly.”
She said protocol also dictates that TATT gives the broadcaster the opportunity to make representations on its behalf.
She preferred not to discuss any possible sanction, if any, at this point in the investigation.
Guardian Media reached out to Parasram for comment on Alleyne’s utterances but did not get a response.
