Investigators were on Monday evening awaiting instructions on whether to charge a 41-year-old man for the murder of Teneil Cupid.
The 23-year-old Fyzabad mother of two will be laid to rest on Tuesday, a week after she was murdered.
Cupid’s nude body was found in a forested area at Well 8, Syncline Road, Santa Flora around 3.15 pm last Tuesday. A WASA employee stumbled upon her body while carrying out routine checks.
Earlier that day her mother Nathalie Monzano had reported her missing to the police. Her relatives last saw her alive when she left her mother’s home at Easy Street, Fyzabad in the company of the suspect to get something to eat.
Cupid, a mother two young children, had broken off a relationship with the man three weeks ago and was staying at her mother’s home.
Cupid, a Cepep worker, was a victim of domestic abuse, but she kept the abuse hidden from her mother and older sister Anastacia Knights.
Knights told Guardian Media that her sister’s death should serve as a wake-up call for women in abusive relationships to get out.
The suspect was arrested at his home last Wednesday.
Homicide detectives took the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on Monday and were awaiting advice on whether to prefer charges against the suspect.
Cupid’s funeral service is carded for 1.30 pm Tuesday at Guides Funeral Home in San Fernando.
