Three men were arrested yesterday after a car chase and gunfire exchange with police.
The men, all from Monte Grande, Tunapuna, were arrested after officers on mobile patrol, received information that individuals travelling in a silver Mazda 323 vehicle, were in possession of firearms.
Officers observed the car in question, travelling along Bharath Street, Tunapuna and a chase ensued.
The gunfire exchange occurred after the vehicle crashed along Cumberbatch Lane, Tunapuna.
The occupants opened fire at police, who, in keeping with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) Use of Force Policy, returned fire. The exchange resulted in the 26-year-old driver receiving a gunshot wound to his right ankle. He was arrested and taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he was treated and is still being warded.

The 18- and 20-year-old occupants of the vehicle were also arrested. A search of the car was conducted and one (1) silver revolver with four (4) rounds of spent ammunition and one (1) round of live ammunition was found. Investigations are continuing.
