RHONDOR DOWLAT-ROSTANT

Three murders were recorded within a three-hour period in North Trinidad on Tuesday night.

Guardian Media understands there was a double murder at Maracas, St Joseph, in which one other person was wounded; while in Morvant, a 25-year-old man was killed.

According to a police report, two men from separate addresses on La Rue Pomme Road Extension, Maracas, St Joseph—27-year-old Ronell Scotland, and 34-year-old Russell Du Bois—died at hospital.

Reports are that at about 7:23 pm on Tuesday 16 February 2021, police officers were on mobile patrol along the Maracas Royal Road in the vicinity of the Maracas Recreation Ground, when they heard gunshots coming from the La Rue Pomme Road area.

The officers proceeded to the area where they encountered a group of persons in the roadway who told them that three persons had been shot and taken to the hospital.

The scene was processed, and officers recovered 15 spent 5.56 shell casings, 11 spent 9 mm shell casings and one fragment.

Enquiries revealed that at about 7:23 pm Scotland, Du Bois and another man were lying on the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds just outside Scotland’s home at #47, La Rue Pomme Road Extension.  The three men were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex by a resident; however, Scotland was pronounced dead on arrival.  Du Bois succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:17 pm while receiving treatment at the hospital.

The third victim also was treated and was warded.

Meanwhile, in Morvant, 25-year-old Malcolm Richardson of Water Wheel Road, Diego Martin, and Clarence Circular, Mon Repos Road, Morvant, was gunned down while at his Clarence Circular address.

The incident occurred at about 9:50 pm on Tuesday.

Police said Richardson, a labourer and a shopkeeper, was fatally shot in the upper torso.

The Homicide CSI officers processed the scene and retrieved eight spent 9 mm shell casings and two deformed projectiles.

Preliminary investigations revealed that at about 9:45 pm, Richardson had just closed his shop—“Rampin Shop”, situated on the Corner of Mon Repos Road and Clarence Circular, Morvant—and was walking towards his home when he was shot by a lone gunman.

Richardson’s common-law-wife, who was with him at the time of the shooting, escaped injuries as she ran away on seeing the gunman.  She reportedly hid in a nearby drain.

The gunman then escaped by running through a footpath on the eastern side of the road.

Investigations are ongoing.
