Three to appear in court charged with sexual offences against minors

The following is a press release from the TTPS:

Three men are expected to appear before San Fernando, Scarborough
and Port-of-Spain Magistrates today to answer to sexual offences
charges against minors.
The chargers arise out of three separate investigations by officers of the
Child Protection Unit (CPU) which resulted in the arrest of the suspects.
In the first case, on April 24th, 2020 a 16-year-old female victim reported
to officers of the South Western CPU that she was employed as a packer
in a supermarket for over a year. During that time, the victim told police
that the owner of the establishment sexually assaulted her.
WPC Mc Gregor of the South Western CPU immediately launched an
investigation into the report and subsequently arrested a 49-year-old
man.
The supermarket owner will appear before a San Fernando Magistrate
to answer to the following charges:
 One count of Sexual Touching of a Child,
 One count of Employment of a Child Under the Age of 16 Years
not being a Family Member
 One count of Failing to Open and Maintain a Register of
Employment of any Child and the Name, Address and Date of
Birth of any Child Employed by him.
In the second incident, sometime in March 2020, a report was made
to the Port-of-Spain CPU of a 14-year-old female victim who was
subject to abuse lasting over a seven-year period.
The abuse is reported to have occurred on both islands of Trinidad
and Tobago.A comprehensive investigation, led by WPC Mahabir of the
Port-of-Spain CPU, in collaboration with officers of the Besson Street
Police Station, commenced and resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old
male suspect.

The man is expected to face Port-of-Spain Magistrate today to answer
to the following charges:
 Four Counts of Sexual Penetration of a Child
 One count of Indecent Assault
 One count of Sexual Touching of a Child
In the third case, on January 18th, 2020 a 15-year-old female minor,
reported to officers of the Tobago CPU that she too was victim to a
sexual assault by a man.
WPC Scotland-Celestine of the Tobago CPU led the enquiry and
arrested a 22-year-old suspect on one count of sexual penetration.
He will appear before a Scarborough Magistrate today to answer to the
charges.
All three investigations were spearheaded by W/Supt. (Ag) George, ASP
Nowbutt, ASP (Ag) Sookdeo and supervised by Insps. Roberts and
Andrews and Sgt. Miller and have been referred to the
Children’s Authority for further support to the victims
.
