The cadaver refrigeration unit for storing bodies of people who died with COVID-19 that was installed over the weekend on the compound of the Scarborough Hospital at Signal Hill, Tobago.

Secretary for Secretary of Health, Wellness and Social Protection in the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Dr Faith B.Yisrael, has confirmed that the facility to store the bodies of people who succumb to the COVID-19 virus, is now functional.

“The operationalisation of the supplemental mortuary container is being managed in a way that ensures that the required standards are met. The container is on site,” she said in a statement on the Division’s Facebook age.

“Thus far,” she added, “the refrigeration systems have passed the required tests and the electrical components have been installed. The final phase of the process is the modification of the internal shelving, which is ongoing.”

The supplemental mortuary began operations yesterday.
