A Secondary School teacher appeared before a Scarborough Virtual Magistrate today, charged with larceny after she shoplifted several items from a Tobago supermarket.

Rebecca Smith, 47, an Agricultural Science teacher attached to the Signal Hill Secondary School appeared before Magistrate Dwayne Murray, after she was caught stealing chicken nuggets, garlic sauce, butter and toothpaste from the Coss Cutters Supermarket.

The court heard that Smith went to the Scarborough supermarket and while shopping, placed the items in her bag and left without paying for them.

The security officer searched her bag and found the items.

She was taken back to the supermarket but subsequently ran.

The security officer gave chase and she was held a short distance away.

Smith, along with the stolen items, were handed over to the police.

She pleaded guilty to the crime.

When asked by Magistrate Murray why she stole the items, she informed the court that there was some weakness on her part and she was tempted.

She also begged the court for forgiveness.

She is scheduled to return to court on July 6, 2020 for a final sentencing.
