Tobago tenant allegedly bathes landlord with acid-like substance

A well-known Tobago calypsonian and his wife currently are in police custody following an altercation with their landlady—Zobah Samuel—on Thursday, over outstanding rent and construction of a wall on a business property.

A well-known Tobago calypsonian and his wife currently are in police custody following an altercation with their landlady—Zobah Samuel—on Thursday, over outstanding rent and construction of a wall on a business property.

According to the police report, the altercation occurred in Crown Point after the landlord spoke to the calypsonian about the construction.

The report said when the landlady and her family turned up at the construction site, a substance was thrown on them, resulting in burns about their bodies. The landlady is now warded at the Scarborough General Hospital.

The report said the landlady also was allegedly beaten.

Guardian Media spoke to Samuel.

Recounting the experience, she said when the substance was thrown on her, her skin began melting and parts of her clothing stuck to her body.

She alleges that the situation dates back to 2017.
