Tropical Depression strengthens to Tropical Storm

Tropical Depression Seven has strengthened to Tropical Storm Grace. In a press release issued, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (MET) said that at 5 a.m. the storm was approximately 675km east of the Leeward Islands. Tropical Storm warnings have been issued for several Caribbean countries. Trinidad and Tobago is not one of them. The following is a press release from the MET:

At 5 a.m. today (14th August 2021), Tropical Depression Seven has strengthened to Tropical Storm Grace. Its location at 5 a.m. was approximately 675km east of the Leeward Islands. Tropical Storm Grace is moving westward near 35 km/hr. A motion toward the west or west-northwest with a gradual decrease in forward speed is expected during the next few days. On this projected track, the centre of Tropical Storm Grace is forecast to move over the Leeward Islands tonight (14 August 2021).

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for… * Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Montserrat * Saba and Sint Eustatius * Sint Maarten * St. Martin and St. Barthelemy * U.S. Virgin Islands * Puerto Rico, including Vieques and Culebra A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for… * British Virgin Islands A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours. A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours.

We wish to underscore that this system poses no direct threat to Trinidad, Tobago or Grenada and its Dependencies.
