Former Housing Minister Major General (Retired) Edmund Dillon and former Chief of Elections Officer of the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) Ramesh Nanan have been selected by Cabinet to be part of a Caricom Elections Observations Missions for the general elections in Sr Vincent and the Greandines on November 5.
This follows an invitation from the Caricom Secretariat for observers from T&T to be part of the Mission. All costs will be covered by Caricom Member States’ contributions for the duration of the mission from October 29 to November 7.
The elections are expected to be a straight fight between the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP) led by Dr Ralph Gonsalves, which will be seeking its fifth consecutive term in office, and the New Democratic Party (NDP) being led into elections for the first time by lawyer Dr Godwin Friday.
In the last elections in December 2015, the ULP defeated the NDP by eight seats to seven.
