Monday’s COVID-19 related death was the youngest fatality to be recorded locally.

Speaking during the Ministry of Health’s virtual press conference on Wednesday, Principal Medical Officer in charge of the parallel healthcare system Dr Maryam Abdool-Richards said the person was under the age of 25 and had pre-existing medical conditions. The Ministry’s update on Monday indicated that the person was a female.

Dr Abdool-Richards did not give further details on the age of the person or the nature of the pre-existing medical conditions because of patient confidentiality. She, however, reminded citizens that no one is safe from an adverse outcome from a COVID-19 infection.

As of Wednesday morning, Monday’s fatality was the latest in the country. Deaths remain at 106.
