Music streaming platform Spotify has launched an all-new virtual curation microsite to commemorate Notting Hill Carnival 2021.

The microsite, which was launched last Thursday, features all-new playlists from legends, including Billy Ocean and Ian Wright, as well contemporary stars Kes the Band, Shenseea, Dexta Daps and DJ Private Ryan.

Also included are a suite of bespoke podcasts as well as exclusive essays on the theme of Carnival from some of the UK’s most renowned Black writers and creatives.

Spotify is an official partner for Notting Hill Carnival, which has seen its physical parade cancelled again due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leroy Harris, Spotify Artist Marketing Lead for the UK and Ireland, said: “At Spotify, we are committed to supporting the Black community and elevating Black voices. Notting Hill Carnival is a monumental part of British and Caribbean culture: Spotify’s online platform and curation of Carnival provides an avenue for existing fans and those new to the experience alike, to continue to experience some of the utter joy of the weekend’s celebrations and what makes Carnival so special.”

The Carnival Sounds microsite for 2021 will allow users to explore 42 of the official Notting Hill Carnival sound systems and DJs playing a mixture of dub, reggae, soca, soulful house and everything in between. Sound systems to explore include King Tubby’s – Carnival’s oldest sound; Rampage Sound – one of Carnival’s most coveted spots; Seduction City Sound – Carnival’s all-female line-up; Martin Jay – the prince of UK soca.

Several Caribbean artistes will also have promoted takeover playlists (lists the artistes created themselves) during the event, including Massive Soca Hits by Kes (Trinidad), Dancehall Official – Dexta Daps (Jamaica), Carnival – DJ Private Ryan (Trinidad), Irie – Protoje (Jamaica), Dancehall Queen by Shenseea (Jamaica)

Other notable playlists include: Xport – PARTYNEXTDOOR

The Gold List – Billy Ocean (Trinidad)

One Love – Jesse Royale (Jamaica)

Island Pop – Alicai Harley (Jamaica)
