This year’s National Calypso Monarch Terri Lyons received her prize of $800,000 on Wednesday from Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (Tuco).

Not only did the winner get her cheque but she and all finalists received some extra cash from the calypso organisation.

A statement from Tuco yesterday said Lyons, the daughter of the legendary Austin “SuperBlue” Lyons, won the title with her commentaries Obeah and Meghan my Dear, while Karene Asche and Heather Mac Intosh-Simon second and third, respectively.

Tuco said the official cheque distribution process began last Friday at its head office for the finalists of both the National Calypso Monarch and Extempo Monarch.

The calypso organisation lamented that it was unable to have a grand celebration for the winners because of the COVID-19 pandemic and had to heed the Government’s call to exercise social distancing.

However, it said in spite of this, there was still a lot to be grateful for as finalists of the Calypso Monarch Competition each received an ex-gratia increase in their prizes.
