A Tunapuna man will once again face the courts in November this year, on charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

VIJAY SAITH appeared before Magistrate Nalini Singh at the Tunapuna Magistrates’ First Court via virtual hearing on Monday 7th September 2020, to face the charges.  He pleaded not guilty and was granted own bail in the sum of $10,000.

The court matter was postponed to Wednesday 18th November 2020.

According to official police reports, the incident for which the charges were laid occurred on Wednesday 4th March 2020, at 8 pm.

Reports are that the victim was at home with the defendant—Vijay Saith—when they had an argument. It is alleged that the defendant became enraged and proceeded to pick up the victim by her upper torso and threw her on the bed.

It is also alleged that the defendant then picked up a fan and began hitting the victim on her head and upper body. The fan broke and he allegedly took out the steel pole and continued hitting the victim with it about her body.

The TTPS confirms that a report concerning the incident was made to the Tunapuna Police Station on Saturday 7th March 2020, at 5:30pm. The victim was referred to the Gender Based Violence Unit (Northern Division) located at the Maloney Police Station.

The victim’s statement was recorded, and the scene of the incident visited and processed. The victim subsequently sought medical attention.

The 47-year-old suspect, Vijay Saith of Morton Street in Tunapuna, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, on Sunday 6th September 2020.
