Two appear in court charged with possession of pepper spray and tasers

Two persons have appeared in court in separate instances, charged with possession of prohibited weapons.

Dillon Karriah, 22, of Kelly Village, Caroni, appeared before Tunapuna Magistrate Adrian Darmanie, on Thursday 12th March 2020 and pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to police reports, he was arrested during a stop and search exercise in the vicinity of Grand Bazaar, on Saturday 7th March 2020.

The suspect was found to be in possession of 26 cans of pepper spray, 33 tasers, and 13 folding knives.

He was fined $15,000 or in default, serve 12 months’ in jail.

The suspect was ordered to pay $3,000 forthwith and the rest of the fine by May 18th 2020.

The Magistrate also instructed that the exhibits be destroyed.

The charge was laid by PC Purcell of the Port of Spain Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

In the second incident, Kisson Ramoutar, 37, of St. James, was arrested at his home on Saturday 7th March 2020, for possession of component parts for tasers.

He was charged on Wednesday 11th March 2020 and appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate on that same date.

The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 with a surety.

The matter was adjourned to May 28th 2020. Ramoutar was also charged by PC Purcell of the Port of Spain CID.
