Police arrested two men during an anti-crime exercise in Arouca for possession of a firearm and ammunition.
According to police reports, while driving along Cumberbatch street officers observed two men seated on buckets in an open yard.
Both men looked in the direction of the oncoming police vehicles and quickly stood up. PC London became suspicious of their actions and quickly approached both men, identified himself as a police officer, and then observed a firearm positioned at the feet of both men.
PC London retrieved the firearm and upon examination found a magazine containing ten rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition inserted in the firearm.
The two men aged 21 and 22, both of Arouca, were arrested and conveyed to the Arouca Police Station, together with the seized firearm and ammunition.
In a separate incident yesterday, officers acted on information, proceeded to Marie Street, Calvary Hill, Arima where they searched an open premises and found a black plastic bag which contained 29 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, along with one black ski mask. No one was arrested. Investigations are continuing.
