Two men were arrested during an anti-crime exercise in Couva on Friday 1st May 2020, one for possession of marijuana, and the other for possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The exercise was conducted by officers of the Central Division Task Force, the Couva Criminal Investigations Department (CID), and the Canine Unit was supervised Sgt Piquette and Sgt Badree.
Official police reports state that police officers executed a warrant at Flamingo Ave, Lisa’s Gardens, Couva, and found and seized 65 marijuana plants, during the exercise.
A male occupant of the house was arrested, and the plants seized.
Following that arrest, the officers left the location and observed a dark coloured motor vehicle stationary along the roadway. The vehicle sped off as the police convoy approached.
Officers of Couva CID gave chase and observed that the driver pointed a firearm in their direction. The suspect surrendered.
He was arrested for the offences of possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and common assault.
