Two charged with assaulting women

Members of the Gender-based Violence Unit (GBVU) have charged two men with assault following two independent incidents with women.

The first accused Kevon Burgess, 52, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and choking on May 4, 2020. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered to stay 100 metres from the victim’s house and not to enter her premises.

The incident is alleged to have taken place on February 15, 2020, when the victim, 30, went to the home of the accused after receiving a call from his girlfriend.

The Polioce Service said when the accused was confronted by the victim, he allegedly grabbed her throat several times and

choked her.

The victim was also reportedly dealt several blows to the face with his hand along with a shovelhead and a

skillet, causing injuries to her

The victim sought medical attention at the Port of Spain General Hospital and a report

was made to the GBVU, Port of Spain.

Investigations were conducted under the supervision of Supt Guy-Alleyne and Insp Bridglal.

Charges were laid by Constable Maraj. That case has been adjourned to July 3.

In the second matter Tejram Harripersaud, 34, of Diego Martin, was arrested and charged on June 6, 2020 for malicious wounding and choking.

He appeared in the Port-of -Spain Magistrates’ Court on June Tuesday and was was granted $10,000 cash bail.

The Police Service said a eport was made to the GBVU on June 6, after the accused allegedly had an altercation with the 38-year-old victim at their shared residence.

The victim was reportedly choked and pushed into a stove . Police claimed the victim was also punched in her face and head and chopped her with a cutlass on both her hands.

Man killed in Maloney ID

The man who was shot dead in Maloney on Tuesday has been identified as Tevin “Wick” Sullivan, of Bazilon Street, in Tunapuna.

Police said the incident occurred at Maloney at about 2.45 am.

Residents of Building Five and Building Seven told police they heard several gunshots.

Some of the residents, who went to check found Sullivan with gunshot wounds about the body lying on the ground outside Building Seven.

Another man, a 25-year-old was also found outside Building Five with gunshots to the abdomen and legs.

Both men were taken to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope for treatment, however, Sullivan was pronounced dead on arrival.

The other injured person was treated and warded in stable condition up to late yesterday.— Rhondor Dowlat

Credit card skimming devices seized, suspect held

Police officers, who went at the St Joseph home of a 25-year-old man to search for arms and ammunition instead found and seized credit card skimmers, ABM card readers, blank cards used in ABM Fraud, blank cheques and a lap top.

According to a police report, during the period 1 am and 4 am on Wednesday a party of officers including the

E999/ERP Tactical Response Patrol Team conducted an excercise in the Northern Division St Joseph district and executed a search warrant at the home of the suspect for arms and ammunition, however, nothing named in the warrant was found.

The officers, though, found and seized credit card skimmers, ABM card readers and blank cards used in ABM Fraud also blank cheques and a lap top.

The suspect, a deportee, was arrested pending enquiries.

He is to be circulated with Interpol and the ABM Task Force.

The excercise was coordinated by Senior Supt Dominique, Supt Ramsook, ASP Sylvester and supervised by acting Insp Brown.— Rhondor Dowlat
