Two police officers have been charged with misbehaviour in public office following a reported incident involving three Venezuelan national on March 9.
Corporal Hadeed Mohammed, 42, with 20 years’ service and Constable Mukesh Sylvester, 26, with six years’ service, both last attached to the North Eastern Division’s, Emergency Response Patrol, were charged with the offence on Thursday following advice received from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The victims reported to police that on March 9, 2020, they were at an apartment building in the Barataria district, when two police officers forcibly gained entry into the premises.
The victims were robbed of a quantity of US and TT currency.
A report was made to the police and investigations found that the two police officers were on duty at the time the alleged offences were committed.
They were subsequently arrested by officers of the Professional Standard Bureau (PSB) on March 10 in connection with the incident.
Investigations were supervised by acting Senior. Supt Samaroo, Supt Montrichard, ASP Noriega and Insps. Petty, Nixon and Subero all of the
PSB, while the charges were laid against Mohammed and Sylvester, byCpl (Ag.) Nicholas, also of the PSB.
