Two girls have topped the Secondary Entrance Assessment exam in Tobago.

The top student on the island is Jole St John, of the Scarborough Methodist Primary, while the second top student is Raeya Charles, of St Andrew’s Anglican School. Both girls passed for Bishop’s High School.

Speaking to the media after collecting her results, St John said, “I am very, very relieved because I was very anxious this morning and the past few days thinking of what the results will be. I am excited but also humble at the same time.”

“It definitely was a lot of hard work, a lot of commitment and staying focussed and not letting anything hold you back,” St John added.

She advised other students to, “put your best foot forward. Always do your best and give it your all and once you do that, you will have nothing to worry about after.”

St John’s mother was seen crying tears of joy as her daughter collected her placement slip.

Meanwhile, Charles said while she was expecting to do well, she did not expect such a high rank.

She admitted, “I expected to go a little lower down like third or fourth. I feel elated. I am very happy.”

Charles received a full score in the Mathematics exam. She said while the subject is her favourite, she does not intend to pursue any career in that field.

Charles also said she had not asked her mother for any reward yet, since she is still deciding on what she wants.

Charles’ mother Kahea Wilson was all smiles over her daughter’s achievement.

“She worked hard. It was tough with everything being online, but I told her to go do what she can do and I will be proud no matter what,” Wilson told Guardian Media.

She advised parents to continue supporting their children regardless of the circumstances, noting that it is always a “team effort.”

Both girls indicated that having achieved their SEA goals, they were now ready for the next phase of their academic lives.
